notes on being a DOMINICANYORK
MULTIMEDIA EXHIBITION
As an Exhibitions Student Assistant, I collaborated with Spring 2021 Graphic Design Artists-in-Residence, Ramon Tejada. I had the opportunity to design the show’s identity and social media while assisting with curating and installing the exhibition.
Tejada was inspired by the aesthetic of NYC construction site posters, as well as the concept of the divided line. The resulting installation serves as a visual representation of his creative research through our collaboration and the methodical planning of the printed work in the space. The show’s identity serves as a continuation of his typographic experimentation, integrating his design practices into the promotional collateral.

ARTIST BACKGROUND
notes on being a DOMINICANYORK was Tejada’s “attempt of making graphic design that engages with [his] direct Dominican lineage.” Through the rejection of conventional rules of design, Tejada sought to further decolonize design by integrating his family and heritage into his design practice, and breaking typographic rules.
