Chime

BRANDING & WEB DESIGN

Chime is a hypothetical art gallery located in Baltimore. The concept started as a web site project focused on responsive design techniques. The unique concept combines my experiences working as an Exhibitions Assistant at Stevenson University and a Graphic Design Internet at the BSO to create the branding for a modern, courageous, and inclusive art gallery. Chime’s tagline, A Gallery for All, reinforces its core mission to serve as an institution that creates space for all artists that call Baltimore home.

The brand itself serves as a love letter to Baltimore artists. Adapting the purples and oranges from the city’s prominent sports teams created a sense of familiarity and pride in the color scheme. The diamond pattern also serves as a backdrop for the site. Decorative and accessible typefaces were chosen to emphasize the welcoming nature of the gallery. The website takes inspiration from comparable prominent galleries, including the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Walter’s Art Museum. By emphasizing structure and simplicity, the website creates a comforting atmosphere for the showcased work and artists to shine.

To extend the brand beyond the site, I designed multiple different touch points related to the concept.
